The Portland Club

HOUSE RULES

  1. The Portland Club (hereinafter referred to as the “Club”) shall be open for member use from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 A.M. daily.
  2. If Club property is damaged, destroyed, lost, or requires cleaning as a result of member’s or their guest’s negligence, that member shall be responsible.
  3. There is to be no food or beverages on the pool tables at any time. Perishable items are not to be kept in member lockers.
  4. Members are responsible for returning the Club to its original condition. Before leaving, members shall:
      • Pick up any trash as well as empty any full trash receptacles
      • Return furniture back to its original location
      • Clean any dishes used and as well as any surfaces that were utilized
      • Return the sound system to its original settings
      • Ensure all windows are closed and the thermostat is set back to its original temperature/setting
      • Turn all lights off
      • Ensure all doors are locked
  5. Guests are strongly encouraged to individually contribute a $10 parlor fee into the House Fund Box for use of the Club and its amenities, including use of the keg.
  6. Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times. Guests may not visit the Club more than five (5) times within a calendar year. Guests regularly visiting the Club are strongly encouraged and invited to become members.
  7. It is prohibited to leave any exterior doors to the Club propped open for any reason. Members are responsible for door control while utilizing the Club.
  8. Only members are authorized to be behind the bar. Members are not to disturb or modify the keg lines unless properly trained.
  9. Members and their guests are not to modify or tamper with any security systems that are in the Club.
  10. Members shall enter via the side portico entrance or front entrance, utilizing their membership card. Members are to be respectful of the lessee and shall not disturb upon entering or going upstairs.
  11. The Club rooms may be reserved for closed member-sponsored events on a first-come, first-served basis at the discretion of the executive committee. Members must request the date on The Portland Club website no less than one week prior. All closed member events booked for Mon-Thurs are subject to a room fee of $300 for three hours, and every hour thereafter at an additional $100. Events booked for Fri-Sun are subject to a $500 for the first 3 hours, and $100 for each additional hour. The member who booked the event must be present at all times and is responsible for cleaning and returning the room to its original state. Closed member events are defined as any event that prohibits other members from attending and simultaneously utilizing the Club rooms.
  12. The Portland Club greatly encourages members to teach their child(ren) the noble art of billiards as well as respect for the historic building, the rules of the Club and respect for other members. The goal is for all members to enjoy their time in the Club. With that in mind:
    1. Minors (under the age of 21) are not allowed in the Club at any time, unless accompanied by an adult Member.
    2. No minors are allowed in the Club after 8:00pm unless they are attending an event in which minors are allowed.
    3. There is to be no running.
    4. No roughhousing.
    5. No yelling.
    6. All use of any games/equipment the Portland Club owns is to be used properly, in a respectful manner, and must be closely supervised by a Member at all times.
    7. Any damages done by a minor will be the responsibility of the Member to rectify.
    8. Please refer to Rule #4 regarding returning the Club to its original condition.
    9. Any minor of a non-Member must also pay the Parlor fee.
    10. The number of minors in the Club at one time is limited to a ratio of no more than 3 minors to 1 adult, who is supervising the minors at all times.
    11. Respect for other members must be given when sharing the space with minors. 
  13. Illegal drugs are prohibited from The Portland Club at all times.
  14. All non-service animals are prohibited inside the Club. Qualifications for service animals may be requested by a member at any time.
  15. Members are responsible for displaying their assigned parking sticker on their car at all times when parking in the Club owned parking lot. Failure to do so may result in towing at the member’s expense.
  16. Members shall not use the name or logo of the Club for any purpose without prior authorization from the board of directors or officers. The Club mailing list shall not be used for any solicitation without the prior consent of the board of directors or officers.
  17. There is to be no smoking with an open flame inside the building.
